Where we are, and how to find us
We are at 6 South William Street, Dublin 2, D02 P461, on the stretch between Exchequer Street and the Powerscourt Centre. If you are coming from Grafton Street it is a two minute walk, and the Luas Green Line at St Stephen's Green or Dawson Street puts you five minutes away. It is a small room rather than a banquet hall, so a table is worth booking on a Friday or Saturday evening.
Lunch in the city centre
The lunch menu is the single most ordered thing in this restaurant, ahead of every individual curry on the card. That is the honest shape of a Dublin 2 Indian restaurant: office lunches, people between meetings, shoppers off Grafton Street who want to sit down properly for forty minutes rather than eat standing up. The kitchen opens at noon and lunch runs through the afternoon.
Early bird before the theatre
The early bird is the second most ordered menu here, which makes sense given where we are. The Gaiety, the Olympia and the Gate are all a short walk, and an early bird at seven puts you in your seat with time to spare. It is the same kitchen and the same tandoor as the à la carte, on a shorter card.
A licensed room, not a takeaway counter
We are fully licensed and Cobra on draught is one of the highest volume things that crosses the pass, behind only rice and the lunch menu. There is wine by the glass and by the bottle, and the usual soft drinks if you are driving. This matters because it is the clearest difference between this room and a takeaway: people come here to sit down for a couple of hours.
What Dublin 2 orders
Butter chicken and chicken tikka masala are the two dishes that leave this kitchen most often, usually with pilau rice and garlic naan, and pappadums to start. If you want something the city centre orders less of and the kitchen enjoys more, ask about the chef specials or the tandoori grills, which come out of the same tandoor as the breads.
